Our super chic and always on trend photographer, Roxanne, is always on the move, from shooting on the streets to shooting models for the mag. Kicking South African Fashion Week off to the perfect start, Gert-Johan Coetzee’s A/W16 collection left audiences spellbound at the Ferrari showroom in Bryanston last night.
As we’ve seen over the years, the local designer has gone out of his way to link his magical creations to a good cause. In the past, Gert has created collections that highlight breast cancer awareness and HIV/AIDS – and this year he took it a step further.
Gert says that when he learnt that water will probably be the cause of the next world war, he knew he had to celebrate the precious commodity we all take for granted. “We’re experiencing the worst drought in 23 years; we must start paying attention,” he says.
“Water is the essence of life and we should treat it preciously,” Gert continues. “My new collection came from that: it’s a celebration of water, bubbling and flowing along a riverbed, reflecting light, cascading down waterfalls.” And Gert couldn’t have captured the heart of his theme more perfectly.
Teaming up with Ferrari (to celebrate the brand-new California T), Sony Mobile and Spree, Gert debuted 31 looks from his new collection, leaving fashion lovers gasping in awe.
From fluid draping, bursts of blue feathers and opulent Swarovski-encrusted gowns to figure-flattering ready-to-wear threads, this is one of Gert’s best collections yet!
“We worked really hard at this collection and you hope that people will like it,” says the designer. “It’s an honour to have a platform that allows me to talk about issues that concern me.”

Last night on Wall Street in New York, the Balmain x H&M collection made its global runway debut in front of a celebrity-packed audience and we were lucky enough to be invited and to sit front and centre!
Kylie Jenner, Diane Kruger, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Alexa Chung were among the guests to get an exclusive look at the glamourous, powerful and rich detailed collection designed by Olivier Rousteing. The collection will be available in around 250 stores worldwide, as well as online, starting November 5, 2015 including South Africa!
The night was as bold and powerful as Rousteing’s designs, bringing together fashion and music to celebrate the collection in a venue themed like a futuristic subway station. After an exclusive preview of the campaign music video starring Kendall Jenner dance crews hyped the crowd for a runway show featuring models such as Gigi and Bella Hadid, Jourdan Dunn, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls.
After the fashion show Backstreet Boys surprised the crowd with an exclusive live performance hyping the 90´s vibe.
“Tonight is a dream come true for me. The energy and vibe is unbelievable, and to have the Backstreet Boys perform for Balmain x H&M is incredible. It is an honour for me to collaborate with H&M, and tonight’s launch is something that I will never forget,” says Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain.
“The launch was a true reflection of the Balmain x H&M collection, full of energy, positivity and glamour. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we can’t wait to share this feeling with our customers around the world when the collection finally hits stores,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M.
This year has seen a rise in various new trends, from athlesuire wear to the union of bold print separates; fashion took on a ‘no-rules’ approach this year.

Kylie Jenner, older sis Khloe, Gigi Hadid and Selena Gomez are all fans of the latest trend in swimwear: the thigh brow, brought to you by the “frong”. A frong, in case you’re wondering, is a leotard or swimsuit cut so high it looks like a front-facing thong. And a thigh brow is the line at the top of your legs. Jane Fonda first rocked a frong back in the 80s, and Pam Anderson and the Baywatch brigade took up the baton in the 90s. Now it’s back.
